Last week, Newry Mourne Down Labour Market Partnership hosted a special event in the Kilmorey Arms, Kilkeel, focusing on career pathways into Engineering.

The session featured in panel conversations with Exact Group NI and Water Solutions Ireland, supported by representatives from SRC and SERC who together explored job, graduate and apprenticeship pathways.

Attended by over 50 delegates, the event attracted school leavers, job seekers; restarters and returners; local businesses; and those considering starting a new business.

Newry Mourne and Down Council Deputy Chair Cllr Gareth Sharvin said: “As a key growth sector, engineering is undoubtably an attractive career, offering a dynamic mix of options comprising electrical, environment, mechanical and computer to name just a few.

“Labour Market Partnerships believe it’s critical for local job seekers to engage directly with businesses who are successful in this sector, to learn, aspire and gain awareness of the range of career opportunities available. We are delighted that Exact Group and Water Solutions Ireland, SRC and SERC are here to today to talk directly to students and job seekers.”

Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships create targeted employment action plans for Council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work. ENDS
