Congratulations to Shea Conlon P7B Cloughoge Primary School, whose entry ‘The Eagle' has been selected as the winner of the Newry City Football Club ‘Design a Mascot' competition in association with the Newry Democrat. As part of his prize he wins a family weekend away in Downhill Hotel, Ballina, Co Mayo, and £100 vouchers from JJB Sports, courtesy of the Club's main sponsor McKeowns Solicitors.

Judging the entries was a panel including Newry City General Manager Derek MacEil, Diarmuid McKeown of sponsor McKeowns Solicitors, Newry Democrat Sports Editor Steven Malone and Glenda Douglas of the Costume Corner.

Other designs which the panel commended were ‘The Shark' by Amy Anderson 10B/C Newry High School and ‘The Tiger' by Zoe Lowry, 10C also Newry High School. Both these entrants win tickets for a family (up to 5) to any game of their choice this or next season in the League from Newry City Football Club and will each receive £50 Vouchers from McKeowns Solicitors.

Speaking on behalf of the judging panel Diarmuid McKeown said the standard and number of entries was very high and commended the schools and children for taking part. "Looking at what other clubs use as their mascot, we felt the Eagle was a bit unique and we loved Shea's design. It struck a chord with me too as a firm of solicitors or legal eagles!" 

Shea will meet his Eagle mascot design in person later this month at a special reception in Newry City Football Club where he'll join The City Eagle on its first outing on the pitch.
